NZePS & e-prescribing

NZePS prescription list app: making sense of e-prescribing in NZ

If your doctor now sends your prescription electronically, you have met NZePS — the New Zealand ePrescription Service. Here is what it does, what it means for your medicines, and how a personal prescription list app fits around it.

What is NZePS?

NZePS (the New Zealand ePrescription Service) is the national system that lets prescribers send prescriptions electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. Instead of a paper script, your prescription moves securely through the health system to the pharmacy that will dispense it.

It is a big improvement for safety and convenience: fewer lost scripts, fewer trips, and a clear electronic record of what was prescribed and dispensed.

What “prescription list” really means

NZePS handles the transaction between your prescriber and pharmacy. It is not, however, a personal medication manager for you. The list it underpins is a record of prescriptions — it does not explain what each medicine does, help you match your blister pack, or gather everything into one friendly view.

Many people want exactly that: a single, understandable list of everything they take, current and past, that they own and can carry anywhere.

How ScriptPal gives you your own prescription list

ScriptPal is an independent personal medication app — not part of NZePS and not affiliated with it. You build your list by scanning the pharmacy label or typing each medicine in, and ScriptPal keeps it organised and explained.

  • A clear list of every medicine you take, in plain English.
  • Repeats tracking so you know when to re-order.
  • A blister pack view that mirrors your pharmacy pack.
  • A printable summary to hand to any doctor or pharmacist.

Using an e-prescription with ScriptPal

The two sit happily side by side. Your prescriber sends the script through NZePS; you add the dispensed medicine to ScriptPal so it lives in your own understandable list, alongside your over-the-counter medicines and supplements. Next appointment, you walk in with the whole picture in one place.
